Spieth had begun the final round of The 146th Open leading nearest rival Matt Kuchar by three, but he struggled over the front nine and then slipped a shot behind after the most dramatic of bogeys at the 13th, where he did well to even make five after taking a drop on the practice range following a wild drive.

However, the Texan then bounced back with one of the greatest finishes imaginable, picking up five shots to par over the next four holes and ultimately triumphing by three shots.

A birdie at the par-3 14th, where he was inches from making a hole-in-one, was followed by a spectacular eagle at the 15th and further gains on the 16th and 17th, before a closing par sealed victory.
