The quality of Leonard's golf - and, in particular, his putting - shone through on the final day at Royal Troon as he came from five shots behind to beat Jesper Parnevik and Darren Clarke by three.

Yet Leonard's performance at the trophy presentation was just as accomplished, as the softly-spoken American paid classy tribute to his rivals and then brought laughter from the crowd as the enormity of his achievement sunk in midway through his speech.
